Lot 1726
Uncertain, circa 12th century. Seal (Lead, 27 mm, 28.34 g, 6 h). MHP ΘV The Mother of God, nimbate both hands half-raised before her, palms outward. Rev. Nimbate facing bust of military saint (St. George?), holding a spear over his right shoulder, and resting a shield on his left arm. Unpublished in the standard references. An impressive seal of provincial style. Very fine.

On this seal, the sigla and the nimbi are engraved into the surface. Perhaps it is a seal that was given a second life as a decorative piece
